Two Vows Above the Clouds
Maya and Theo hiked past the stars to marry at sunrise. I carried spare batteries and tried to keep up.
The plan was simple: meet at the trailhead at 4am, reach the overlook by first light, vows with nobody watching but the mountains. What the plan omitted was how cold 4am is in September, and how completely worth it the shivering would be.
Light you cannot schedule
We arrived as the ridge caught fire — that three-minute alpine glow photographers dream about. Maya read her vows with her breath showing in the air. Theo cried. I nearly missed the shot wiping my own eyes, which is the most honest sentence in this whole journal.
Why elopements photograph so well
No audience, no performance — just two people and the enormous fact of the day. Every frame from that morning looks the way the couple actually felt, because there was nobody to perform for. If you are considering it: do it. Bring warm socks. Bring me.
