Eleven Faces Before Lunch

A startup booked the whole morning for team headshots. By noon, the skeptics were asking for “just one more.”

Team days are my secret favourite bookings. Eleven strangers arrive clutching coffee, convinced they are unphotogenic, and leave comparing favourites on the big screen like old friends. This crew — engineers, designers, one very patient founder — was no exception.

The rhythm of a team morning

Seven minutes per person: wardrobe check, three setups, instant review before the next sitter steps in. The first two are always the slowest; by number four the room has opinions (“chin down, you look great”) and by number eleven there is applause.

What companies get wrong

They book headshots like dentist appointments — necessary, joyless. But a team gallery where everyone looks confident changes how a company sees itself. The founder told me their careers page conversions doubled. I believe it; these faces are impossible not to trust.

If your team still shows a wall of mismatched selfies, you know where the studio is. Coffee’s on me.
