What to Wear When It Matters
You don’t need new clothes. You need texture, movement, and nothing that shouts.
The camera loves simplicity. Ten years of sessions have taught me that the outfits people stress over least photograph best — the favourite sweater, the dress that moves, the boots already broken in. Here are the rules I give every client.
Texture over logos
Linen, knit, denim, soft wool — fabrics with something to say catch light beautifully. Big logos, neon prints and tiny pinstripes (which shimmer on camera) all pull attention from faces. When in doubt, plain wins.
Coordinate, don’t match
Families and couples photograph best in a shared palette, not uniforms: three or four tones that sit happily together — cream, sage, denim, rust — with one gentle pattern at most. Lay everything on the bed together; if nothing fights, you are done.
Move in it first
Sit down, lift your arms, walk across the room. Sessions involve breeze, grass and piggybacks — if you will tug at it all hour, choose the other one. Bare feet photograph beautifully, so bring shoes you can slip off.
After booking, every client receives my full styling guide with palette cards for each season. But honestly? Come comfortable and come as yourselves. The rest is my job.
